Tell State Lawmakers:
If SEPTA Stops, We All Stop
Every day, SEPTA buses, trains and trolleys provide more than 800,000 trips, taking commuters, students, seniors and tourists where they need to go throughout southeastern Pennsylvania. Most of those trips -- and the unparalleled economic activity they support – would be lost if SEPTA is forced to balance a massive budget deficit without additional state funding for public transportation. Riders like you will be left stranded unless leaders in Harrisburg take immediate action to adequately fund SEPTA and transit systems across Pennsylvania.
Send the message to Governor Shapiro and your State Senator and State Representative. SEPTA needs a permanent funding solution before it’s too late.
Governor Shapiro has proposed a new statewide funding plan to increase Pennsylvania’s investment in transit operations for the first time in nearly 15 years. If this year’s state budget does not include vital new transit funding, SEPTA will be forced to cut its service by 45% and increase fares by 21.5%, including:
- Permanently eliminating 50 Bus routes
- Permanently eliminating 5 Regional Rail Lines
- Ending all Metro Rail and Regional Rail service at 9:00 PM each day
- An across the board 20% service reduction on all remaining routes
- The highest single-trip transit fare in the nation
Once the dismantlement of SEPTA begins, it will be almost impossible to reverse, and the economic and social impacts would be immediate and far reaching – whether you ride SEPTA or not. SEPTA would be forced to cease providing additional service to special events, including plans to support the World Cup, the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations and other 2026 events. Congestion on local roadways would worsen as SEPTA riders switch to driving, and overall, residents’ ability to safely travel across the region would be limited.
State lawmakers need to hear from you. Tell them your story. Let them know reliable, affordable SEPTA service matters – to you, your family, and your community. Tell Harrisburg to pass new transit funding and save your seat before it’s too late..
